SAN ANTONIO (July 30, 2018) — Mayor Ron Nirenberg on Monday announced that City Council will conduct a public hearing Aug. 8 to gather community input on the proposed paid sick leave ordinance. An alliance of community groups gathered about 144,000 signatures seeking an ordinance mandating that employers in San Antonio provide paid sick leave to workers.
City Clerk Leticia Vacek is expected to announce whether enough valid petition signatures were submitted on Thursday.
“As a community, we need to discuss all of the issues surrounding a potential paid sick leave policy at the local level,” said Mayor Nirenberg. “We are inviting every constituency with an interest in the proposed ordinance to voice their opinions to ensure transparency and public discussion of the issue.”
The Aug. 8 public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 114 West Commerce St., 78205.
