On Tuesday, April 19, the City of Converse City Council approved an incentive package of up to $155,000 to Papa Dante’s, Inc., for its expansion plans for development of their $1.2 million Dante's Event Center and Bocce Ball Pavilion.
The incentive package includes a $125,000 grant and up to $30,000 in reimbursement of fees and permit costs associated with the building of this 9,620 square foot facility.  The event center will have capacity to seat over 400 people in the main banquet room, with additional 120 people on their mezzanine level.  The center will host Wedding Receptions and Corporate Events offering a wide variety of food and beverages prepared by the Banquet Chef.
When no events are scheduled, Dante's will host Bocce Ball League and Tournament play on their regulation-size courts, Open Bocce Ball play, Wine Tastings, Fundraising Events and more!  Dante's kitchen will be open daily to serve their guests; pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, as well as tasty desserts.   A full bar and wine cellar will be on premises, and a daily Happy Hour will be offered.
This project is scheduled to be complete and operational by the second quarter of 2017.  The facility will begin pre-booking events starting in July of this year.
It is estimated that this project will create 12-15 new employment positions. “We could not be more excited about what this event center will do for Converse,” said Mayor Al Suarez.  “Papa Dante’s has been a long-standing cornerstone of our community.  This project will facilitate the explosive residential and commercial growth that Converse is currently experiencing.  We cannot wait to see the impact it will have on Converse, and on the region.  We congratulate Papa Dante’s and the Converse EDC for their outstanding work that will bring additional visibility and opportunity to our great city.”
“We are grateful for the investment and opportunity that this facility will mean, not only for our business, but for our region,” said John Dante, Vice President and General Manager Papa Dante’s Restaurant.  “This unique facility will not only host special events, but will also bring attention from around the country, as the United States Bocce Federation (USBF) seeks to locate tournaments in Texas.“
The Dante Family has operated their restaurant in Converse since 1979.  The Dante girls, Jennie and Elizabeth, plan to take the family business...into the future!   “We are so very excited by the support from the City Council and the community in embracing this long-standing business’s expansion plans,” said Kate Silvas, Converse EDC Executive Director.  “This investment, along with the event center and Bocce Ball Pavilion itself, are a great testimony to the community’s efforts to work together.  We are so proud of what Papa Dante’s is undertaking.”
The economic impact analysis presented to Council last Tuesday night indicated that the investment of $155K would drive an 18 percent return on investment and that payback would occur in just over 5 years.
