February 23, 2016

The North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is committed to our mission of Keeping Bexar County Strong through the delivery of advocacy, networking, recognition, leadership and professional development programs. We started 2016 with a number of events and activities in support of these efforts and are looking forward to an eventful year ahead.

In just the last month we held our annual Gala – celebrating the leaders who built this city; welcomed new businesses and business locations through ribbon cuttings and grand openings; and held our Leadership Lab kickoff breakfast – welcoming the 87 new students to our nine-month leadership and professional development course.

Thank you to those of you who contribute to the successes of each of our events and help us in our goal to move San Antonio forward.

Gala
Our annual gala was held on January 30, 2016 at the Marriott Rivercenter in celebration of San Antonio – the city we have become and the bright future that we have ahead of us. The night featured entertainment and dance, the installment of our 2016 Board of Directors, a reflection on 2015 and my vision for 2016. A number of notable San Antonio leaders were in attendance and demonstrated their pride for our city in a special video tribute, “We Built This City”. We also had the opportunity to present the San Antonian Award to honoree Jim Reed of the San Antonio Medical Foundation. As I shared in my vision, we will continue to enlist many of our city’s leaders to tell their story about how the North Chamber has impacted their businesses and thus, our community.  These efforts will unfold in an Engagement Campaign designed to increase membership and educate our current membership on the North Chamber’s unique role in our community and in their business development.

Leadership Lab
Recently, we held an orientation and kickoff breakfast for 87 members of the Leadership Lab class of 2016.  The award-winning course is an intensive nine-month leadership development series offered by the North SA Chamber. Over 900 people have attended Leadership Lab since its inception in 1999 and the North Chamber's non-profit arm, Lead SA has awarded over $54,000 in scholarships to students who work for non-profit and small businesses during that time. Thank you to this year’s chair Jennifer Van Cleave of Padgett, Stratemann & Co., and Alumni Association chair John Wood of Broadway Bank. To learn more about how you can contribute to the success of this program reach out to Chris Bugg at (210) 384-7721 or email at cbugg@northsachamber.com.

CFO Forum
On Thursday, February 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the North Chamber will host a sold out CFO Forum specifically designed for Chief Financial Officers at the Oak Hills Country Club. The forum’s topic “Global Economic Outlook: Where in the world are we?” will focus on foreign, domestic, and regional economic forces; how their capital markets are reacting; and what the impact will be on your company. This year's event speakers are Jim Glassman, Chief Economist for JPMorgan Chase and Matt Lazzari, Executive Director for JPMorgan Chase. A special thank you to the CFO Forum committee and chair this year, Mark Outlaw of JPMorgan Chase. To inquire about our next CFO Forum, contact Wendy Thomas at (210) 384-7724 or email at wthomas@northsachamber.com.

30th Annual Golf Tournament
The North Chamber is celebrating its 30th annual Golf Tournament this year on Thursday, March 31 at the Fair Oaks Country Club. The day will include musical entertainment by Something Blue, a Texas-style BBQ Awards Dinner and a Helicopter Ball Drop (tickets available now for purchase). Sponsorships and teams are still available and can be reserved through the event page or by calling Yvonne Gonzales (210) 384-7727 or email at ygonzales@northsachamber.com.  This is a great day for golf on the greens coupled with an enjoyable evening celebration and a great opportunity to relax and further develop relationships with clients, employees or other associates.

Stay Involved
As we continue through 2016, I encourage you to get plugged into one of our committees or events. There are a number of participation opportunities that will deepen your involvement and help you find your place of service. On behalf of the North SA Chamber of Commerce, our Board of Directors, staff and volunteers thank you for your membership and all that you do to make San Antonio a great place to live and work.
