Generations Federal Credit Union partnered with local CBS affiliate KENS 5 and San Antonio-based Corner Store as part of the annual Bill’s Elves School Supply Drive to collect school supplies for the more than 7,000 children who are under the care of Child Protective Services. This year the event was held from Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7 and accepted more than 20,000 supplies for the children.

“This is the fourth year that Generations has partnered with KENS 5 to sponsor this event and it’s been rewarding to watch the school supply drive grow significantly year after year.  It is a testament to the San Antonio community and how we go out of our way to take care of each other,” said Steve Schipull, president and CEO of Generations Federal Credit Union.

The school supplies were delivered to CPS offices on Tuesday, August 11 and trucks and storage units were unloaded live during the afternoon newscasts. KENS 5 Chief Meteorologist Bill Taylor serves as the host of this annual event.

Generations and CPS volunteers collected supplies in front of the studio during the collection week, and individuals could also make donations through a Generations hosted website.  Both Corner Store and Generations also accepted donations at their locations during the drive.

“With the busy schedules we all lead, especially when it’s time to go back to school, it’s hard to find any free time. Generations and Corner Store tried to make it as easy as possible to contribute to this very worthy cause. By opening up our locations and setting up the online donation process, it makes it very simple for the community to step up and make a difference in the lives of these children,” concluded Schipull.
