Generations Federal Credit Union partnered with CBS affiliate KENS 5 and Corner Store as part of the annual Bill’s Elves Toy Drive to collect toys for the nearly 8,000 children who are under the care of Child Protective Services. This year the event was held from Monday, December 7 through Friday, December 11 and received more than 6,500 toys for the children.

“This is the fourth year that Generations has partnered with KENS 5 to sponsor this incredible event and it’s been so rewarding to watch the toy drive grow larger and larger every year,” said Ashley Harris, vice president of corporate communications for Generations Federal Credit Union. “This was by far the best year we’ve ever had and that’s directly related to the San Antonio community and how we go out of our way to take care of each other.”

The toys were delivered to CPS offices on Tuesday, December 15 and the trucks were unloaded live during the afternoon newscasts. KENS 5 Chief Meteorologist Bill Taylor serves as the host of this annual event.

Generations volunteers collected toys in front of the KENS 5 studio during the collection week and all GFCU branches accepted toys as well. Monetary donations could also be made online through the Generations FCU website. This year’s event raised more than $8,500 – the most in the five year history of the toy drive.

"With the busy schedules we all lead, it’s not easy to carve out time, so Generations and Corner Store tried to make it as easy as possible to contribute to this very worthy cause. By opening up our locations and by setting up the online donation process it makes it very simple for the community to step up and make a difference in the lives of these children,” concluded Harris.
