Meriwether joins SWBC

SWBC is excited to announce that Karen Meriwether has joined the company as Vice President of Internal Audit and Chief Audit Executive. In this role, Karen is responsible for leading all of the company’s audit activities.
Karen brings more than 30 years of experience in financial, accounting, auditing, risk management, and tax experience – all focused primarily in the insurance industry. Prior to joining SWBC, Karen served as Director of Internal Audit for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (Windstorm) and the Texas Fair Plan Insurance Association (Fair Plan). As the Chief Audit Executive for these quasi-governmental organizations, she developed and implemented their Internal Audit and Risk Management programs.
Previously, she was Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for Argo Group. In this role, Meriwether was responsible for all risk management matters related to Argo Group and its affiliate organizations, partnering with senior leadership to help develop and implement a risk management framework and risk management strategies across the organization, including working closely with the risk modeling and actuarial functions to ensure appropriate management of business risks in line with Argo Group and Solvency II standards. During this time, she also served as the Head of International Compliance, responsible for regulatory compliance for all Argo international offices and operations, and she worked closely with Argo’s Head of U.S. Compliance to develop and implement a strong compliance function across Argo Group. Previous to this Karen was Chief Audit Executive for Argo Group.
Karen earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She is an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and Wounded Warriors.
