This year, more than 3,000 area residents will come together to be part of the Stop Diabetes® movement at the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Mission County Park Pavilions – Pavilion #1 in San Antonio - the one-day signature fundraising walk benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Every dollar raised through Step Out plays an important role in supporting the Association’s mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

“We are all in arms length from a person with diabetes,” said Lenore Gregson, 2015 Step Out Chair. “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to make a positive impact in fighting diabetes for a friend, a family member, or ourselves.  This event represents unity in that fight, so that means to encourage not only ourselves to walk for the cause, but to bring friends and families to walk to Stop Diabetes.”

Today, there are nearly 30 million Americans—including 14% of the San Antonio population—who have diabetes. While an estimated 21 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 8.1 million people are unaware that they have the disease.  If current trends continue, one in three American adults will have diabetes by 2050.

Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is an event for the whole family, or for anyone who enjoys the feeling of being part of a community. It’s an event for those who want to join the Association’s family and help change the future of diabetes.  This event is presented locally by H-E-B and Davis Vision Visionworks and serves at the kick-off event for American Diabetes Month in November. This year, the Association’s theme for American Diabetes Month is Eat Well, America! and offers fun, interactive ideas for people across America to make meals not only healthy, but enjoyable.
