South Texas Blood & Tissue Center seeking summer donations

Every year, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center forms partnerships with businesses across San Antonio for company blood drives.

Those joint efforts play a major role in saving patients across South Texas, since a single donation can help up to three people who need a transfusion.

The need for blood is year-round, but there are times, especially during the summer, when the total number of donations decline. Families go on vacations and high school students – who made more than 26 percent of all STBTC donations in 2014 – are not around to take part in school-sponsored blood drives.

As a result, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is asking San Antonio-area business owners to encourage their employees to donate this summer.

They can locate one of the five San Antonio donors rooms and schedule an appointments by calling 210-731-5590 or visiting DonatingForLife.org.

Blood and blood products have a limited shelf life, and needs can change across the region with a single accident or complicated medical procedure.
